Where Does Demodex Live?

Demodex is a microscopic mite that lives naturally on most people's skin. This obligate human ectoparasite lives inside or near the hair follicles and sebaceous glands beneath them.

Therefore, it can be theoretically said that any part of the body with hair be a refuge for Demodex. (The only uninhabitable areas seem to be the soles of the feet and hands).

But it is not such a simple issue!

Even a palace in the middle of a desert would not be habitable.

These little friends of ours also need food!

Since their most important food is skin oil, they can not accept your generous offer to live in the follicles of low-fat areas of the body!

They choose the follicles of these areas to live in:
Cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, temples, eyelashes, eyebrows, as well as the bald part of the scalp, neck, and ears.

This is why these parts of the skin are more prone to Demodex infestation.
